WA: My original interest started on August 15, 1948 when my wife and son and I in Phoenix AZ on vacation saw four objects information that flew from east to west across a clear blue sky at one in the afternoon. They disappeared one at a time and reappeared. My son said, daddy, look, silver balloons, a dull aluminum color and the sun was bright but they didn’t reflect light, it was more like they absorbed light, they were flying in formation and since there were no clouds I couldn’t estimate their height. Holding a man’s shirt button at arm’s length would cover each one. You remember it vividly, it makes an impression in your mind that you never wipe out.
I was active in APRO and NICAP and in 1968-69, with the Air Force doing what it was and the Condon group, it was clear the Air Force was going to get out. They had a tiger by the tail and it was too embarrassing so they recommended closing Project Blue Book in 1969, and recognizing that it was going to be another whitewash and the Air Force out of it, we started MUFON May 31, 1969, to pick up where the Air Force left off. Reports continued, but the Air Force said there was nothing to them.
I’ve been International Director of MUFON for thirty years, and the phenomena has changed radically. In those days, lights in the sky and objects like silver balloons were typical cases, but now we have abductions. The Hill case was the first one. now we have all those, and the other new addition is where aliens are said to use humans to reproduce some kind of hybrid entity.
There have been advancements in photography. In those days we had so few pictures. The pictures made in California by the state patrolman, our investigator for CHP, were among the few we had. The Villas pictures were hoaxes, the Adamski photos were hoaxes. It was very difficult to obtain genuine pictures then. The McMinnville Oregon pictures were among the best and have withstood scrutiny ever since. I have seen copies of the pictures that still have their fingerprints where they handled them.
We used to have four basic questions we were trying to resolve. (1) Do UFOs exist? That question has been answered. Yes, we do have UFOs. People ask if I believe in them and I say no, I don’t believe in them. Belief has a religious connotation. I accept the fact of a supreme being but I’ve never seen Him. When it comes to UFOs, you look at the facts and the data and the evidence and its overwhelming that we have UFOs. We don’t have to believe.
The second question is, where are they from? and we don’t know. I don’t think they originate on the planet earth. They’re here all the time. They may originate elsewhere and I don’t know where that might be. They certainly don’t make trips back and forth and go back to some distant planet between trips. They’re here all the time and they come and go, do what they want to do, conduct experiments. So we don’t know where they’re from but we know that they’re here.
Third, how are they powered? That’s what aerospace engineers like John Schuessler want to know, so their companies can build crafts that maneuver and fly like UFOs, which would of course make our country number one in space travel. This is what makes our study so important. Once we answer that question, space travel will take giant steps.
Fourth, what can we learn from the entities that pilot these craft? How can we pick their brains?
RT: Do you think there has been overt contact?
WA: These stories float around a lot but I don’t know. We pumped John Lear for information but we couldn’t get enough to convince ourselves that he knew what he was talking about. John was so new in the field that he believed everything people told him. He has been very quiet in the meantime and now he’s out of the UFO field. He was passing too many rumors.
RT: Roswell?
WA: This case has been investigated more than any single case that I know of in the history of UFOlogy. Something definitely happened there, because the government went to too much trouble to cover it up and still are doing so with books that came out fifty years after the event. trying to explain the crash and the creatures that were found by substituting these dummies that were dropped from planes and put in rocket slides and it’s ridiculous. How could people mistake a six foot dummy for a small creature three or four feet tall?
As to testimony, Walter Haut never saw the creatures but he wrote the news release to give to newspapers and radio stations and got the information from Colonel Blanchard. He was just doing a job he was instructed to do. I never talked to anyone who actually saw the creatures firsthand, or the bodies. I don’t take Ragsdale seriously. Other civilian witnesses have gone by the wayside, too.
This thing is so important that if there is back-engineering going on, it is confined to a very small group within the government. There are people in the government who know as much or more than we do about the subject but they’re not confiding in us.
RT: Anybody speaking off the record?
We keep making the appeal and hoping there will be and making ourselves accessible to folks who come forward. We follow all leads to the Nth degree to determine if it’s valid. We’ve made a lot of wild goose cases but we have to check out every one. At this point, there’s no smoking gun.
Abduction phenomena – now, based on all the people I’ve talked to, it’s a valid field. Something is going on. Bud Hopkins, Leo Sprinkle was the first in the field but never received acknowledgement from the field. John Mack has done a lot of work but he’s naive and seems to believe everything. David Jacobs has already made up his mind as to what is going on so it’s difficult to talk to him unless you agree with everything he says.
Bud wrote out the Linda Cortile case. I was very close to that and knew all the people involved – Linda, her husband, her two boys, and that’s one of the strongest cases, although one of the wildest. The Secretary General of the UN was a participant in that, according to his security people. He’s never admitted it. Bud once met him at the airport because a journalist was going to do an interview with him but he kept a straight face, his wife was with him, and she was aghast at what was going on, but at no time during the interview did he admit that he was involved. I am sure he knows it although he could have been hypnotized at the time too. I’ve seen the letters he’s written, tapes made, and I was close to it and am still a good friend of Linda’s and her story is very consistent over the years. Nothing has happened since like the events related in Budd’s book.
It wasn’t hard for me to get my mind around it because of close participation with Linda and the family.
We’re not getting landing trace cases like we used to, we’re getting more ladies calling up and saying they had abduction experiences, crying their eyes out, and you try to help them. I got one just yesterday....
I’ve met with the people in Belgium and have followed the crop circle phenomena. We don’t know if that’s related to UFOs or not but it’s a fascinating phenomena. We don’t know what they are and don’t want to put on blinders and rule out any data. They’re new and important. They are real, oh yes, definitely. Dave and Doug did not do all the crop circles. They talk about how they created the crop circles. I asked how did you do all the crop circles in the US, Australia, Canada, Germany, even the rice patties in Japan, and he just grinned and turned away, because he didn’t have an answer. He was still capitalizing on his part in creating some hoaxes, which he did, but that doesn’t explain everything. He could not have done all of these. Ten fifteen years, they were simple circles, and rings, and every year they grow in complexity, the designs are remarkable. Every year they grow more detailed.
When I first went to Europe, they said abduction was a crazy American phenomena, but that’s changed. They’re in Germany, France, Spain, Italy. Italians had cases but they didn’t believe them. Now they study them. Do not put on blinders because you might miss something important. They finally took their blinders off and found they had cases there. The patterns, the repetitive patterns, are similar.
In terms of an explanation, this is where I halfway go along with Hopkins and Jacobs. I think they’re here to produce entities or hybrid and crossbred entities that will have a job in the future, perhaps taking control of our countries without force, but of course that’s hypothetical. One fellow I talked to saw ten hybrids, little babies. They don’t seem to have emotions. They are trying to use humans to transmit emotions to different degrees of alien. The ones that are fifty-fifty are pretty ugly. One had wispy white hair and blue eyes. Most of the people who have been aboard craft have seen something, embryos in containers, that have been removed in less than term from mothers and have to continue their growth. So many witnesses see them in that stage. One guy in Florida saw ten of them, all small babies, and they tried to transmit ten different major emotions that humans had through equipment from his head to their heads. Some kids have said they have played with them but they don’t know how to skip rope or things like that.
RT: Where are these encounters said to take place, in what kind of space?
WA: As near as I know, they take place in our four dimensional world. Some never see the outside of the craft, they see only the inside. That case of the four guys in Maine – two are twins –that was a good case because they could corroborate what each one saw independently.
The most compelling case – I prepared a talk on Linda Cortile, I know more detail about it so to me it’s one of the strongest cases in the abduction field. As to CE2 cases, the one in Delphos Kansas – I worked with that and the people involved, that’s one of the best cases. The one in Falcon Lake in Canada comes close to that. The man was exposed to the presence of a UFO and burned seriously, that was around 1968, and he’s still living.
